Diabolic Reversals in the 'Landmarks' of Freemasonry: 'The North, The Place of Limitless Darkness'

Rotating Compass & Square

In Freemasonry, "North is the place of Darkness"

by Neo

In the Old Testament, we are given a clue in which direction resides the dwelling place of God:

"No one from the east or the west or from the desert can exalt a man. But it is God who judges: He brings one down, he exalts another." - Psalm 75:6,7 (NIV)

Psalm 75:6 in the American Standard Version Bible reads: "For neither from the east, nor from the west, nor yet from the south, cometh lifting up." (see also E.W Bullinger, The Companion Bible, note on Psalm 75:6)

And in Isaiah, we're practically told that God resides in the North - the Morning Star was reported to have said:

"I will exalt my throne above the stars of God... in the sides of the North." - Isaiah 14:13 (KJV)

Compare the above verse with the NIV Bible: "You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain [footnote - or the north; Hebrew Zaphon]."

North Lodge

At three of the four corners, of the Masonic altar, are placed three lights, as in the picture above. One is placed in the South corner and the other two are placed at the East and West corners. But there is no light at the North of the Masonic altar. Symbolically, the three Masonic lights represent the three stations of the Sun, with the Sun rising in the East, passing round the South and setting in the West. Robert Ingham Clegg, in Mackey's Revised Encyclopedia of Freemasonry, says: "in Freemasonry the North is the place of darkness."

The reason why there is no light at the North of the Masonic altar is because Freemasonry regards the symbolic Sun and the East, as the principle source of all enlightenment and not the God of the Bible, who resides "in the sides of the North".

Additionally, in a quote below, we're told that the three principal officers of the Masonic Lodge also represent the three stations of the Sun but in Psalm 75:6,7, it says: "No one from the east or the west or from the desert (the south) can exalt a man." From a Biblical point of view then, the three principal officers of the Masonic Lodge are wasting their time!

This is another revelation that in Freemasonry, the Worshipful Master and the Senior and Junior Wardens cannot offer true enlightenment, despite the fact that the Worshipful Master in Freemasonry is said to represent the pillar of wisdom.

Coincidentally, the North Star is the only star in the sky which remains constant and unmoving!

Robert Ingham Clegg, 33rd Degree (Mackey's Revised Encyclopedia of Freemasonry p.55-56):

"The form of a Masonic altar should be a cube, about three feet high, and of corresponding proportions as to length and width, having, in imitation of the Jewish altar, four horns, one at each corner. The Holy Bible with the Square and Compasses should be spread open upon it, while around it are to be placed three lights. These lights are to be in the East, West, and South, and should be arranged as in the annexed diagram. The stars show the position of the lights in the East, West, and South. The black dot represents the position North of the altar where there is no light, because in Freemasonry the North is the place of darkness."

Schenectady Lodge #1174, Masonic Community Center's Masonic Terminologies and Descriptions:

"The three lights, like the three principal officers and the three principal supports, refer, undoubtedly, to the three stations of the sun - its Rising in the East, its Meridian in the South, and its setting in the West; and thus the symbolism of the Lodge, as typical of the world, continues to be preserved."
