Shriners Hospital in Honolulu lays off 10

The Shriners Hospitals for Children in Honolulu has laid off 10 employees.

The layoffs include at least one doctor and several nurses, according to a report in the Honolulu Advertiser.

Just last week, the organization said the future of its 22 hospitals will be discussed at an annual meeting in July.

The Shriners Hospital in Honolulu is undergoing a $73-million expansion, one of the largest in the Shriners organization. The project, which began in August 2007, is expected to be finished by 2010.

Shriners Hospitals for Children provides pediatric specialty care at no charge for services.
