CLOVER Two Clover High School graduates – Brittany La’Shawn Carothers of Lake Wylie and Cassie Black of Clover – were awarded a total of $6,000 in college scholarships on May 23 from the Clover Lake Wylie Republican Women’s Club.

The CLWRW Fay Bergman Scholarship, funded by the annual Home and Garden Tour, is awarded each year to one or more Clover High School college-bound seniors based on merit and need. This year marks the first time a scholarship has been awarded to two students.

Recipient of the $3,500 scholarship, National Honor Society student Brittany Carothers graduated with a 4.21 GPA and a class ranking of 88 out of 472, achieving academic excellence while working part time and participating in several school clubs including FBLA, Interact Club, Historical Society, Student Council and Club Fit. She is a member of her church’s youth choir, served as president of its youth enrichment program and has participated in ministries such as the “Clothing Closet” and Campus Connections. She plans to attend the University of South Carolina in Spartanburg where she will major in nursing.

Recipient of the $2,500 scholarship, Cassie Black also is a National Honor Society student and Principal’s Scholar. She graduated with a 4.62 GPA and a class ranking of 38 out of 472, and has been named on the YTC President and Dean’s List. She has received special honors including the AF/ROTC Top Performer Award, Outstanding Cadet Award and the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Southern Jurisdiction Award. While working part time, she participated in AF/ROTC and FFA, and was involved with the Clover Spilled Ink literary magazine.
