Freemasonry: a door ajar to lay

How become a Freemason? What are the meetings? Why this cult of secrecy? The grand master of the GLMF answered these questions Saturday, in Strasbourg.

The room was packed Saturday afternoon, at the circle Goethe in Strasbourg, for the conference of Bruno Plancade (read below). The grand master of the GMLF (France mixed Grand Lodge), explained, often with a touch of humour to a "lay" public, but also to "brothers and sisters" - as well as call between them the masons - what is working in Lodge, in a speech entitled: "the masonry for Dummies".

And then at length he answered the questions posed by the public ahead of the first: "Freemasonry is not a sect, because unlike the latter, it is very difficult to enter and easy to get out." The grand master is not a guru, but a president of association type Act 1901. "A Mason who leaves a lodge can also return to the masonry, in the same Lodge, in the same obedience or in another, with the rank, which was his.

After survey initiation

How become a Freemason? "It is sufficient to write: one-third of the 150 000 Freemasons French, of the two million Masons worldwide, are entered in this way", he noted. The other became because one of their relatives were told one day "that he is a Freemason and not regrets." But the path is long, he warned, since it takes about a year and a half to be initiated. Bruno Plancade slipped in passing that "the secular is not a pejorative term, because this comes from pro fanum, which means that he stands before the temple".

He spoke three investigations that three Masters are on the candidate: their accounts are read "the meeting of the passage under the banner" (before the eventual initiation), where the candidate "is held in the temple to himself blindfolded". Bruno Plancade confessed that "farmers and workers are under-represented in the lodges, where there is an over-representation of officials and in particular teachers", considering 10% the masons in the national representation.

He explained as a "required" (a meeting, read guides) begins "at 20 h 15 with the record of the previous record, because the masons are supposed not to speak of the work outside. Then there is sometimes an initiation or a passage to rank, or "a Board, i.e. a presentation with tripe, with many human" subject to the order of the day, followed by "contributions of the companions and the masters, because there is no debate in the lodges. Masons - "sons of light", hence the term from the East - end their interventions, without never be cut, by a "I", as he has done himself at the end of the conference.

Franc-maçonnerie : une porte entrouverte aux profanes

02/03/2010

Comment devient-on franc-maçon ?

Comment devient-on franc-maçon ?
