Halifax begin events to honour Freemasonry in Canada

HALIFAX - A cemetery service and levee in Halifax on Friday will be just one event to commemorate the beginning of Freemasonry in Canada.

Masonic officials will lay a wreath at the burial site of Major Erasmus James Philipps.

Members of the 40th Regiment will fire a volley of muskets in honour of the occasion. The levee will be held at the Freemasons Hall in Halifax, 165 Coronation Ave., and is open to the public.

Premier Darrell Dexter will declare March 30 to be Freemasons Day in Nova Scotia and will sign a proclamation. Mike Savage, the mayor of Halifax, will also sign the proclamation.
