Man robs Subway, escapes in clerk's van

A clerk at an Alexandria restaurant on Masonic Drive told city police that a man with a gun walked into the back door of the business Monday night, stole cash out of the register then took off in her van.
The clerk told Alexandria Police the man "demanded her keys to her van, which was parked in the back of the business," according to the report, which noted that the van was later found abandoned on Culpepper Road.
Police were alerted of the robbery at 10:24 p.m. at the Subway Restaurant. No one was injured, police said.
The robber got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
