AlJazeeraEnglish New steps on nuclear disarmament May 28, 2010 Kristen Saloomey, United Nations, New York After a month-long negotiation, 189 members of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) have agreed on new steps towards nuclear disarmament. But not everyone is entirely happy with the final statement. Barack Obama, the US president, says while he welcomes the agreement, Washington is strongly opposed to Israel being singled out. But the US backed the deal anyway, for fear of the NPT collapsing.
