Treat America fairly

No problem is too big to run away from, including Monday Mail.

Fair to midway:

Fall is in the air, and soon the smells of the annual fair at the Columbus Civic Center will likewise be adrift.

It's Tuesday through Sunday. Get there while it smells good.

Speaking of Civic Center events, a few e-mails about a Sept. 17 column on people protesting the Shrine circus have crept in, but this one's my favorite. It reminds me of a scene from the 1978 movie "Animal House" -- which sounds appropriate, since the protesters were concerned about circus animals:

So do you feel better now buddy that you've slandered and caused damage to people's minds about the shrine circus... . Besides trying to put out a bad image for shriners, you failed to mention what good have you done for anybody lately? When there are many shriners that are working very hard for a noble cause to help children. Where was it in your report where there was no reporting of any animal cruelty at the shrine circus this year. Saying there have been some bad clowns and or shriners, ok there are probly some bad Americans, but are we all bad? Of course not. I love America and there are many great Americans as well as Masonic Shriners who raise millions of dollars and spend many hours trying to help children. Animal cruelty is horrible and shouldn't be tolerated. But the point is, I've lost all respect for you as a person and journalist. Slander is obviously the name of the game for you Mr. Tim. God Bless and take care.

Sincerely yours truly,

Brandon Cantrell.

Dear Brandon:

Who says there are bad Shriners? I never said that. Are you saying some Shriners are bad? Are Shriners not Americans like the rest of us? If you say some Shriners are bad, are you not by extension criticizing the entire country?

Well, you can say what you want about Shriners, mister, but I do not have to sit here and listen to you RUN DOWN the UNITED STATES of AMERICA! Now hum some patriotic music as I storm out in indignation.

Speaking of patriotic music, here's something with the subject line "campaign song":

To be sung to the tune of LIGHTLY ROW:

Cut and Run

Cut and Run

Democrats can have such fun.

Run and Cut

Run and Cut

You know it's wrong deep in your gut.

Joe Price.

Dear Joe:

Are you saying our orderly withdrawal from an overseas hot spot would be cowardice? Is that not a reflection on our brave men and women in the armed forces?

Well, you can say what you want about Democrats, but I do not have to SIT HERE and listen to you INSULT our TROOPS! Now hum that song again as I march off in outrage.

Isn't indignation fun? No wonder politicians love it.
